Rushmore (1998)

Director: Wes Anderson

Has Fentablar seen this before?: No.

Rushmore turned out to be a pleasant surprise for me. I'd heard good things about it, but had this feeling that I wouldn't enjoy it that much. It turned out that, while I wasn't floored by it, it kept me entertained and had a good story to it that was carried out very well.

In Rushmore, we have three separate "hero's journey" elements - Max Fischer's, Herman Blume's and Rosemary Cross's. Throughout the film we see all three characters grow and change, all the while earning the viewer's sympathy, giving us a somewhat cathartic ending for all three.

Rushmore is a fun, creative film which, as they say, "has a heart". It is very enjoyable to watch when you don't want something too serious. Give it a try, if you haven't.

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):

Plot Effectiveness: 5/5. Max's antics, though not always believable, are very entertaining - as are Herman's.

Cinematography/Shot Selection: 4/5. Well done, though I wouldn't call it excellent.

Overall Acting: 4/5. Ditto.

Score/Soundtrack: 4/5. Yeah.

OVERALL RATING: 4/5
