Has Fentablar seen this before?: No.
I had a difficult time enjoying 28 Days Later. This is because there is nothing really new about the film's themes. It seems to me that this film tries to be Outbreak meets Night of the Living Dead meets Lifeboat, which might even have been alright had its players not simply waded through the film like they were just trying to get it over with. Perhaps they were acting out the film with the same general malaise with which I viewed it.
This is by no means the worst film I have ever seen. I do, however, question what the point is of producing a film such as this (as well as the point of writing a more thorough critique of it). Given the current state of American cinema, perhaps I shouldn't be complaining so much.
Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):
Plot Effectiveness: /5. Again, I simply do not see the point. I'd rather watch Before Sunrise or Before Sunset.
Cinematography/Shot Selection: /5. Boyle was actually decent in this category, though I didn't appreciate the shots of Cillian Murphy's posterior. Is he supposed to be a sex symbol or something?
Overall Acting: /5. Bland.
Score/Soundtrack: /5. Not horrible. It's tough to appreciate the score of a bad film, no matter how good the music itself is.
OVERALL RATING: /5
