Has Fentablar seen this before?: No.
First of all, it's great to see a piece of traditional animation again - so many western animation films are done in CGI these days; while I can appreciate the animation, I just don't think it has the same energy that traditional animation does.
Aside from that, The Iron Giant is a wonderful, moving story - one which is very successful at being emotionally compelling as well as humorous - admittedly, I laughed and cried at various points throughout the film. A very well written script; one which is, in my opinion, an effective blend of Pinocchio and E.T. - though to state it more aptly, it is similar to E.T. with touches of Pinocchio's morality added to it.
Each of the film's characters are believable and the dialogue is excellent as well as expertly laced with good humor, sarcastic and otherwise. True to the genre's form, The Iron Giant has moments of sublte "adult" humor which are very funny and mix in well with the rest of the film's humor and emotion.
If you have not seen this film, this is yet another which I would recommend to you.
Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):
Plot Effectiveness: 5/5. As I said, a wonderful, moving story.
Overall Animation: 5/5. Perhaps biased due to my above comments on traditional animation, but that's my feeling right now.
Voice-over Quality: 5/5. I felt the voiceovers were very well done and aptly conveyed the characters' moods.
Score/Soundtrack: 5/5. Again, the score fit the mood.
OVERALL RATING: 5/5
